Welcome to the FAQ section of TIMERIDECologne. Here you can find out everything you need to know for an all-round successful visit with us.
In short, for everyone aged 6 and over*. Children, adults, families, tourists, schoolchildren and residents. Whether for history buffs, technology enthusiasts, school trips or for the “Kölsche Hätz”.
Our diverse experiences appeal to a wide range of visitors and most of them visit us at our other locations afterwards.
*Recommended for ages 6 and up. Participation in a virtual reality tour is not recommended for children under the age of 6. The reasons for this are that VR headset are usually too big and too heavy for small children’s heads. They can slip, be uncomfortable or even lead to unhealthy strain on the neck and head. Visual perception is still developing. . At this age, the ability to process spatial depth and movements correctly is not yet fully developed. VR can overtax these perceptual processes.

Many of our guests have never worn VR glasses before.
Don’t worry! We explain well on site how to put on the glasses and are always ready to help if anything remains unclear. Ask your time travel guide and follow his instructions, then nothing can go wrong.
We can reassure you: In the many years that TIMERIDE has been around, no one has gotten seriously sick. Our VR ride on the streetcar is relatively leisurely, so you can relax and take in your surroundings. In addition, the airflow and vibration simulate real locomotion.
You can usually pull the VR headset comfortably over your glasses (conventional models with not too large lenses and narrow frames, models with oversized lenses and thick frames are not possible). Varifocals are not suitable, only single vision glasses. If your glasses are too big, we recommend wearing contact lenses.
In general, it is perfectly possible to participate in TIMERIDE events in Cologne and Dresden at the Senseum using a wheelchair or walker. Unfortunately, participation in our experiences—using a wheelchair—is not possible in Frankfurt or Andechs. Unfortunately, participation in a wheelchair or with a walker is not possible on our GO! tours at any of our locations, as the routes include steps and uneven terrain.
Conventional hearing aids can be worn under the headphones, you just need to be careful when putting on the VR headset. Your time travel guide will be happy to help you put on the VR headset.
The concept of TIMERIDE is strongly based on visual and auditory impressions.
Don’t drink and Timeride!
We understand that celebrations together can sometimes invite you to have a drink or two – who can resist that? But a clear head is important for our time travel. For safety reasons, guests under the influence of alcohol are unfortunately unable to attend. In such cases, we reserve the right to refuse admission and a refund will not be possible. Thank you for your understanding – we look forward to going on a journey through time with you sober and full of anticipation.
All tours are designed in understandable language and are basically also suitable for German learners, but historical terms and more complex contexts are part of the tours. The Cologne 1926 tour is particularly suitable for participants with little knowledge of German.
The capacity of our tours depends on the number of available seats and VR headsets. At the TIMERIDE SENSEUM (Cologne 1926), there are 13 seats available per tour; for TIMERIDE GO! guided tours, there are 15 seats.
With pleasure! Send us the completed inquiry form and we will be happy to provide you with a quote.
Yes, they do exist. Please send us the completed school group inquiry form and we will be happy to make you an offer. In our inquiry form you can already find out a lot of information about your school group inquiry and our conditions.
We recommend a minimum age of 6 years.
Why children under 6 years old should not participate with VR glasses
Participation in a virtual reality tour is not recommended for children under 6 years of age. The reasons for this are:
For these reasons, participation is not recommended for children under the age of 6 or only in the form of external observation, for example on a screen.
Animals of any breed and size are not permitted on a tour, as care cannot be guaranteed during the VR experience.
Participation is generally possible with a wheelchair or walker
The entrance to our historic streetcar is via steps. We are happy to provide support. Unfortunately, we cannot provide access to our historic streetcar for wheelchair users. However, it is possible for the wheelchair user to take part in the VR ride next to the streetcar.
Please inform us in advance! This is the only way we can ensure that everything runs smoothly.

As we all know, there is no such thing as bad weather, only bad clothes! All kidding aside, we try to run TIMERIDE GO! even in rainy weather. If our tours cannot take place on the day of the event, we will inform you by phone in time. Therefore, please be sure to include a phone number with your booking. In addition, you should be equipped weatherproof for every tour, because sometimes a rain shower comes as a surprise. This includes sturdy shoes, a jacket and umbrella.
We make a general recommendation for ages 6 and up. Children up to the age of 12 can participate if accompanied by an adult
For an optimal experience, we recommend our GO! The VR sequences and historical backgrounds require a certain level of understanding and a certain maturity and ability to concentrate.

In our TIMERIDE GO! we overcome steps and stairs. Therefore, participation with a wheelchair or walker is unfortunately not possible.
